-Kan-ed has reversed their previous decision, and will be issuing internet cost subsidies again. You must be a Kan-ed member (click HERE for current membership list), and you must apply by April 21, 2006.The application will take a few minutes to fill out on line, and you will need to gather the following information before you start:
-Federal Employment ID Number (FEIN)
-Library address, contact person, etc etc
-Name of Internet Provider, type of connection, approximate connection speed
-Projected annual cost for FY 2007 (July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007)
-Do you plan to use your 2006 subsidy to maintain your current internet speed, or increase it? (yes/no)
-If you are increasing speed, what type of connection will you be using? (cable, DSL, wireless, etc)
If you applied for "E-rate" discounts for your internet service, the e-rate discount applies first and will cover the majority of your costs--probably 60-70% for most libraries. When you apply for your Kan-Ed subsidy, you must apply only for the amount remaining after the e-rate discount.
Libraries which used eRate Solutions to apply for an e-rate discount for Internet service need to contact eRate Solutions. They will help you determine the remaining amount so that you can apply for a Kan-Ed subsidy for that amount.
