Learn a bunch of computer skills quickly. Staff will be at stations for you to rotate through and learn a skill in 20 minutes. We demo, you practice, then move on to the next quick skill. If you need to try again, you can rotate back to earlier stations.
Stations will be set up all morning so you can start as early as 9:00 am or as late as 11:00 am. Space will be limited to no more than 3 per station at each session so everyone can practice. If you think you’ll need more practice, come earlier to rotate back again.

This 90-minute webinar will feature a panel of experts on “hot topics” in privacy today, plus practical tips and resources for developing library programming to engage the community.
Topics include:
The USA Patriot Act and reader privacy: its history, how it affects libraries, its current status and thoughts on its future
Airport screening and surveillance: evolving practices of the TSA and how they impact personal privacy
Youth, privacy, and social networking: current research on privacy attitudes of young people
Overview of specific resources that libraries can use to offer programs and events on these topics.
Q&A, discussion of privacy issues, and ideas and best practices for addressing them in the library.

Cedar Crest Lodge, Pleasanton, Kansas, April 27-28, 2011.
The second year of APPLE will start with a two-day seminar where you will learn to serve your community and help meet its needs through:
-customer service training,
-advocating for your library with the community and trustees,
-learning best practices for serving youth,
-understanding the ways library collections are managed,
-doing all of this with your colleagues and system partners, and
-understanding WHY you are doing these things.
APPLE will again at be held at
Cedar Crest Lodge, Pleasanton, Kansas, April 27-28, 2011.
All expenses, including meals and overnight lodging
will be paid for you by Southeast Kansas Library System.
We want you, your board, and your library to succeed!
Space is reserved for all returning APPLE seeds from 2010, but you must register to confirm your plans to attend. A limited number of slots are available for new participants.
APPLE is designed for Southeast Kansas Public Library Directors who do not have a Master’s Degree in Library Science.
Apple is a 2-year training program with additional requirements to complete the program.
